A very revealing conservative pipeline freakout

"If there's a doomsday scenario and [the Alberta NDP] actually get a pipeline built. If that ever happens they're going to govern for the next twenty years."

"If there's a doomsday scenario and [the Alberta NDP] actually get a pipeline built. If that ever happens they're going to govern for the next twenty years."

Progress Alberta recently had the pleasure to attend an event thrown by one of the many unite-the-right groups here in the province, the Alberta Prosperity Fund. The self-described Super PAC's event saw around 250 people show up to a ballroom in hotel near the former downtown Edmonton airport on April 5.

Conservative luminaries at the event included city councillor Mike Nickel, Conservative MP and awkward headshot enthusiast Kerry Diotte, as well as former Progressive Conservative leading lights Mel Knight and Janice Sarich. Sheila Gunn Reid from the Rebel was also there to record the proceedings.

I won't bore you with the details of the event. It was simply example #4592 of the great conservative freakout here in Alberta. Losing the provincial and federal elections has caused a lot of sound and fury amongst conservative supporters but not a lot of actual introspection about why they've been banished to the wilderness.

Regardless there was one moment that I think everyone should hear. One attendee of the event got up and accidentally spoke the truth. Here's the clip.

"If there's a doomsday scenario and [the Alberta NDP] actually get a pipeline built. If that ever happens they're going to govern for the next twenty years."

Yes. That's a lifelong conservative voter talking about a very particular doomsday scenario - for people who support conservative parties. If the Alberta NDP are able to get a pipeline built why they could govern the province for the next 20 years!
